IMM - IMM's history

The Institute of Mathematical Machines (IMM) is a research & development institute. It is a unit of public finances sector, operating in a scope of innovating technologies development, application and dissemination. These technologies refer to e-learning, document management, work-time registration, access control, electronic biometric document and others. IMM conducts ECDL trainings and specialized trainings on .NET technology and e-learning. IMM was established in 1957, is controlled by Ministry of Commerce. It currently employs 100 employees.

It is situated in center of Warsaw, not far from central railway station and Chopin Airport.

IMM's history

The year 2007 will mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of an independent unit of the Polish Academy of Sciences - the Laboratory for Mathematical Aparatus (Zakład Aparatów Matematycznych - ZMA), which in 1962 became the INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICAL MACHINES.

In its long history, the IMM was the main, and for a long time the only, research and development unit dedicated to the creation of hardware and software, and solving the problems of their scientific and industrial application.

The ZMA introduced an organizational framework for the development of computers (then called "mathematical machines") in our country and encouraged an intensification of the effort that was began as early as 1949 in the Group for Mathematical Apparatus of the Mathematical Institute. The Group achieved many a success, especially in the development of analogue machines, for instance the Analyser of Differential Equations.
